Description
Bred in Texas to take resist the heat and humidity, and the disease that plague roses under those extreme conditions, ‘Belinda’s Dream’ wows with gorgeous flowers that resemble old English roses while having clean, disease-resistant foliage rivaling the Knock Our Roses. It was the first rose to be designated Earth-Kind by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. Abundant clusters of large, very double pink blooms with over 100 petals keep coming from spring until frost. A fruity, raspberry-like fragrance and strong stems excellent for cutting are extra bonuses. At around 5 feet tall and wide, this versatile and gorgeous shrub rose is an excellent addition as an accent in smaller spaces or groupings or colorful hedge where space allows.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 5 feet tall and wide, the Belinda’s Dream Rose is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a colorful hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to rose gardens, fragrance gardens, pink theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for hedges; 8 feet apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Belinda’s Dream Rose is easy to grow in average, moist but well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. As with all other roses, to avoid powdery mildew, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Afternoon shade or filtered sun is fine. We suggest a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight for best flowering.
Maintenance is minimal requiring no pruning or deadheading through the growing season, though you can deadhead if you like for shaping purposes and to encourage quicker and heavier rebloom. To keep your rose full and bushy from year to year, in late winter or very early spring the plant can be pruned back to about 18 inches above the ground, though this pruning is not necessary. After this hard pruning, your rose will quickly flush out and start blooming with the arrival of warmer spring temperatures.
Note: As with other low-maintenance shrub roses, Belinda’s Dream may have some blackspot in cool, damp weather, but its vigor and blooming will not be affected by the disease and it quickly recovers with the return of warmer, drier weather.
