Description
True to its name, this new dwarf Nandina sets any landscape on fire. ‘Bonfire’ forms a compact mound up to 3 feet tall and wide that displays thin, blazing, swirling and twirling orange-red new leaves in spring that will not go unnoticed! The foliage turns to soft green in summer and then to burgundy shades in winter. Excellent as a specimen, in groupings or as a low evergreen hedge or border. An adaptable and easy to grow evergreen shrub that will always have you looking forward to spring!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 3 feet tall and wide, the Bonfire Nandina is ideal for use as a colorful accent in smaller garden spaces and container gardens, or in groupings or as a low evergreen hedge or border in larger landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to red theme gardens, rock gardens, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).
Spacing: 2.5 feet apart for solid hedge or groupings; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Bonfire Nandina is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average moist but well drained soil and full sun to part shade. Best foliage color with more sun, Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. As with so many other shrubs, constantly wet or soggy can cause root rot and other plant diseases. Exceptionally low maintenance requiring little if any pruning. Its low water needs makes it highly suitable for Xeriscapes.
