Description
A wonderfully unique and beautiful Rose of Sharon, ‘Boule de Feu’ features showy, carnation-like, pinkish-purple double flowers over a long period from early to mid summer to mid fall! The foliage is real nice on this one as well. Glabrous, thick, rhomboid to ovate, three-lobed leaves are dark green and make the perfect backdrop to showcase the gorgeous flowers. The hummingbirds and butterflies will thank you for planting this one!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall with a spread of 4 to 6 feet, Boule de Feu Rose of Sharon is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings or rows. As she grows taller, remove lower branches and you have a stunning small tree that fits perfectly in smaller garden spaces, landscape borders, home foundation plantings, around patios and other outdoor living spaces, or in containers. A fine selection for butterfly, hummingbird gardens, tropical look gardens, pink theme gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4′ for solid hedges; 10’+ for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Rose of Sharon are very easy to grow. They grow well in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. When established, plants are tolerant of dry soil conditions. Some light shade is tolerated. Too much shade and plants will become leggy and floppy and flowering is diminished.
