Description
With superior disease resistance that comes from Knock Out Rose parentage, and heat, humidity and cold tolerance to -20F, the ‘Candy Cane Cocktail’ Floribunda Rose is one that anyone from New York to Miami can grow. Beginning in early to mid spring and continuously to frost, Candy Cane Cocktail displays abundant and lightly fragrant double roses with up to 42 white petals edged in deep pink to carmine red. As the blooms age the petals turn to pink while retaining the deep pink to red edges. The healthy deep green foliage on an upright and compact shrub to about 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide is the perfect backdrop to showcase the blooms. Excellent for garden beds or containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, the Candy Cane Cocktail Rose is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a colorful hedge in sunny landscape and flowering shrub borders. Also nice as an accent in home foundation plantings and in pots, planters and other containers. A fine addition to rose gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 3.5 feet apart for solid hedges; 7 feet apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Candy Cane Cocktail Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. As with all other roses, to avoid powdery mildew, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Afternoon shade or filtered sun is fine. We suggest 6 hours of direct sun light for best flowering.
Maintenance is minimal. Candy Cane Cocktail Rose do not require pruning, however, they do benefit from it. To keep your Candy Cane Cocktail Rose full and bushy from year to year prune the branches back to about 15-18 inches above the ground in late winter or early spring. After this hard pruning it will quickly flush out and start blooming with the arrival of warmer spring temperatures. Deadheading spent flowers through the season is not necessary however will encourage new buds and flowers. Disease resistant and self-curing.
