Description
Coppertop Sweet Viburnum is a new introduction with dense, evergreen foliage and large leaves that emerge totally unique shades of copper to maroon in spring and any time the plant is pruned during the growing season. Leaves mature to a handsome dark emerald green. Now to the sweet part. In spring, abundant, delicate clusters of sweetly fragrant, small white flowers are beautiful and attract butterflies. This is a shrub frequently used by birds for nesting to raise their young. Exceptionally heat tolerant and disease and pest resistant, Coppertop is right at home in southern landscapes.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 6 wide, depending on pruning, the Coppertop Sweet Viburnum is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or as a hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders. A fine addition to tropical gardens, white theme gardens, fragrance gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 8a, where this Viburnum variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
The Coppertop Sweet Viburnum is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. As with so many other ornamental shrubs, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause problems with the roots. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day for best flowering and foliage density. Responds very well to pruning for shaping and size control. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.

Great product and service! I have ordered from Wilson Brothers numerous times and will continue to do so. I live in a similar planting zone to the nursery location and look at their tips on what they grow. I bought eight Coppertops to make a hedge along my west fence. I have high hops for them!
