Description
For years the only truly cold hardy perennial Verbena we’d found and had growing in our gardens was ‘Homestead Purple’. That all changed with the introduction of the Endurscape Verbenas, cold hardy to USDA Zone 8a. The first verbena that’s hardy in the hottest days of summer, but can take the cold, down to the low teens, and still be there reblooming in spring.
We’ve had EndruaScape Red Verbena growing in our north-central Georgia gardens (USDA Zone 8a) since 2014 and it has demonstrated equal cold hardiness to ‘Homestead Purple’ as well as excellent powdery mildew resistance. This hardy landscape verbena beats them all for summer flower production…taking the heat and staying in flower longer! The vibrant red flower color and superior branching create a full habit bursting with blooms to brighten up your garden spring through frost, year round in frost-free climates!
EnduraScape Red Verbena isn’t as aggressive as Homestead so it fits well in smaller spaces flowering prolifically on trailing stems that form a dense, ground-hugging carpet maybe 6 inches above the ground. Also an excellent spiller plant for container gardens and hanging baskets. Both butterflies and hummingbirds will thank you for planting this one in your gardens!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to about 8 inches tall and spreading to 2 feet or more, Endurascape Red Verbena is an ideal selection for a low border, in groupings or mass plantings, or to cascade over a wall. It is also ideal for growing as a spiller plant in container gardens. That said, when growing in a container, where the roots are exposed to colder air temperatures during winter, the plant may not be as cold hardy. That said, pots can be always be brought indoors when temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing. Otherwise, when growing in the ground, plants are hardy to the low teens and we’ve had reports that plants have come back from the roots with 0 degrees. A fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, red theme gardens, rock gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings

Growing Preferences
EnduraScape Red Verbena is exceptionally easy to grow in all but constantly soggy soil, which is a killer. It prefers a moist to somewhat dry well-drained soil and as much sun as you can give it for heaviest flowering. No pruning necessary though a mid-summer shearing will encourage heavier flower production for the remainder of the season.
