Description
Evergold Japanese Sedge is prized for its brightly variegated leaves of yellow and green. The tight, fountain-like habit of the graceful clumps maintain good appearance in summer and winter. Mounds to about 10 to 16 inches in height with an equal spread making it perfect for mass plantings or a soft-textured, colorful border in sites with moist soils.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a graceful arching mound 10 to 16 inches tall and wide, Evergold Japanese Sedge is ideal for use in groupings, mass plantings or as a border along walkways and paths in landscape borders and home foundation plantings where the soil is consistently moist. It is also very nice as a solo or mixed with other compatible plants in combination container gardens. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, bog gardens, rock gardens, around water gardens, and in woodland or shade gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 10 to 12 inches apart for mass plantings or solid border edger; 24 inches or more apart for space between plants

Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Carex variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Evergold Japanese Sedge is easy to grow in most any moist to wet or moist but well-drained soil and part shade. Very easy to maintain, it requires little if any fertilizer or pruning. In late winter you can tease out dead blades if necessary or cut plants back by two-thirds their height.
