Description
One of the most adaptable and fastest growing Oak trees for use in residential and commercial landscapes, the handsome Nuttall Oak grows at a rate of up to 3 feet per year. When all grown up it reach 60 feet tall by 50 feet wide, making it a perfect selection for a shade or street tree. The deeply lobed leaves emerge a vibrant green purple that holds well into summer before turning deep green. Fall brings yellow leaves that turn to brilliant orange and/or red. The large and abundant acorns mature over a two-year period and supply food and shelter for birds and small animals. Very low maintenance and easy to grow, the Nuttall Oak grows in well-drained to wet soils including heavy clay. If you have the space for a large shade tree and want an oak, Nuttall is hard to beat!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 40 to 60 feet tall and 40 to 50 feet wide, the Nuttall Oak is ideal for use around the home and in parks or other properties that have the space to accommodate a large tree. An excellent shade tree around the home and for outdoor living areas and is nice in sunny landscape and woodland borders. It is a fine addition to wildlife gardens and native gardens where small animals and many species of birds will use the nuts as a source of food and the canopy for shelter. Nuttall acorns are at the top of the food preference list for squirrels and smaller animals as well as larger animals such as wild turkeys, hogs and white-tailed deer.
Suggested Spacing: 60+ feet for space between trees
